🍔 Whiskey-Glazed Mushroom Swiss Smash Burger with Garlic Butter Drizzle

🔪 Ingredients

For the Smash Burgers:

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 recommended for juiciness)

  • Salt & freshly cracked black pepper

  • Neutral oil or butter (for searing)

For the Whiskey-Glazed Mushrooms:

  • 2 cups cremini or button mushrooms, sliced

  • 1 tbsp butter

  • 1 clove garlic, minced

  • 1/4 cup whiskey (bourbon works beautifully)

  • 1 tbsp brown sugar

  • 1 tsp soy sauce

  • Salt & pepper to taste

For the Garlic Butter Drizzle:

  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter

  • 2 cloves garlic, finely minced

  • 1 tsp fresh parsley (optional)

  • Pinch of salt

Other:

  • 4 slices Swiss cheese

  • 2 brioche buns, toasted

  • Optional toppings: caramelized onions, arugula, crispy shallots

🔥 Instructions

1. Make the Whiskey-Glazed Mushrooms:

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tbsp butter.

  2. Add mushrooms and sauté until golden and reduced, ~6-8 minutes.

  3. Stir in garlic and cook for 1 minute.

  4. Add whiskey (carefully), let it bubble and reduce slightly.

  5. Stir in brown sugar and soy sauce. Simmer until thick and glossy.

  6. Season with salt & pepper to taste. Set aside.

2. Make the Garlic Butter Drizzle:

  1. In a small saucepan, melt butter over low heat.

  2. Add minced garlic and gently cook until fragrant and just golden, about 1–2 minutes.

  3. Remove from heat, stir in parsley and a pinch of salt. Set aside for drizzle.

3. Smash Burger Time:

  1. Heat a cast-iron skillet or griddle over high heat until smoking hot.

  2. Form ground beef into loose 2-oz balls (2 per burger).

  3. Add a little oil to the skillet, place balls on hot surface, and smash hard with a spatula or burger press.

  4. Season with salt & pepper. Cook 1.5–2 minutes until edges are crispy.

  5. Flip, top each with Swiss cheese, and cook another 1–2 minutes.

4. Toast the Buns:

  • Butter the inside of the brioche buns and toast until golden brown.

🧱 Assembly

  1. Spread a bit of garlic butter on the bottom bun.

  2. Layer a double smash patty with melted Swiss.

  3. Pile on whiskey-glazed mushrooms.

  4. Optional: Add caramelized onions or greens.

  5. Drizzle with warm garlic butter.

  6. Crown with the top bun.

🧄🔥 Chef’s Tips

  • Don’t skip the smash: That crust from pressing the patty hard into the pan is key to flavor.

  • Use a splatter guard: Smash burgers sizzle wildly.

  • Whiskey note: Let the alcohol cook off for at least 30 seconds to 1 minute after adding.
