Swiss Chicken with the Fixings

Posted on June 7, 2025

Here is a recipe for Swiss Chicken with the fixings — a comforting, creamy, cheesy baked dish that pairs beautifully with classic sides like mashed potatoes, green beans, and rolls.

🧀 Swiss Chicken with the Fixings

Servings: 4–6
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 45–50 minutes
Total Time: 1 hour

🍗 Ingredients:

For the Chicken:

  • 4–6 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (or thighs)

  • Salt & pepper to taste

  • 6 slices of Swiss cheese

  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken soup (or cream of mushroom)

  • ½ cup sour cream (optional for richer flavor)

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley (optional)

  • 1 cup herb-seasoned stuffing mix (like Stove Top)

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)

🍽️ Fixings (Optional Sides):

  • Mashed potatoes (for serving under the chicken)

  • Steamed green beans or roasted vegetables

  • Dinner rolls or buttered cornbread

  • Cranberry sauce (for a holiday twist)

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

1. Preheat Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

2. Prepare the Chicken

  • Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

  • Season both sides of the chicken with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.

  • Lay the chicken flat in the prepared dish.

3. Add the Swiss Cheese

  • Place 1 slice of Swiss cheese over each chicken breast. If the slices are small, overlap them to cover the surface.

4. Make the Sauce

  • In a small bowl, mix together the cream of chicken soup and sour cream (if using). Add a sprinkle of dried parsley if desired.

  • Spread the soup mixture evenly over the cheese-covered chicken.

5. Topping

  • Sprinkle the stuffing mix evenly over the top.

  • Drizzle the melted butter over the stuffing.

6. Bake

  • Cover the dish loosely with foil and bake for 30 minutes.

  • Remove foil and bake for an additional 15–20 minutes, until the topping is golden and the chicken reaches an internal temp of 165°F (74°C).

🥄 To Serve:

Serve hot over a scoop of mashed potatoes or alongside your favorite fixings. Spoon some of the creamy sauce over the sides for extra flavor.

🔄 Variations:

  • Low-carb option: Use crushed pork rinds or almond flour instead of stuffing.

  • Add vegetables: Add a layer of baby spinach or sliced mushrooms under the soup mix.

  • Cheese swap: Substitute Swiss cheese with provolone or mozzarella for a milder flavor.
