Striped Candy Apples

Posted on June 26, 2025

Here’s a simple recipe for Striped Candy Apples that will make a fun and colorful treat! You can use this for parties, Halloween, or just to satisfy a sweet craving.

Ingredients:

  • 6 small to medium apples (Granny Smith or Fuji work well)

  • 2 cups sugar

  • 1 cup water

  • 1/2 cup corn syrup

  • 1/2 teaspoon red food coloring

  • 1/2 teaspoon yellow food coloring

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 6 wooden sticks or skewers (for dipping)

For the Stripes:

  • 1/4 cup white chocolate chips (for drizzling)

  • 1/4 cup dark chocolate chips (for drizzling)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Apples:

  • Wash and dry the apples thoroughly, removing any waxy coating.

  • Insert a wooden stick into the stem of each apple, ensuring it is sturdy and won’t fall off when dipped.

2. Make the Candy Coating:

  • In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, water, corn syrup, salt, and vanilla extract. Stir over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.

  • Once dissolved, stop stirring and let it boil for about 5-7 minutes until the temperature reaches 300°F (hard crack stage) on a candy thermometer.

  • Once the mixture reaches the right temperature, remove from heat and divide it into two separate bowls.

  • Add red food coloring to one bowl and yellow food coloring to the other, stirring gently to combine.

3. Dip the Apples:

  • Hold each apple by the stick and dip it into the red candy coating. Make sure it’s fully coated, then let the excess drip off. Repeat with each apple.

  • Once the red candy coating sets a bit (this happens quickly!), dip the apples into the yellow coating. You can either create a full yellow layer or just do a partial dip to create stripes.

4. Make the Chocolate Stripes:

  • In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the white chocolate and dark chocolate chips separately in the microwave, stirring every 15 seconds until fully melted.

  • Once the apples are mostly set, use a spoon or piping bag to drizzle the melted white and dark chocolate over the apples to create the striped effect.

5. Let Them Set:

  • Place the apples on parchment paper or a silicone baking mat and let them cool completely for at least 15-20 minutes. The candy coating will harden as it cools.

6. Serve and Enjoy!

  • Once cooled and fully set, your striped candy apples are ready to serve!

Tips:

  • You can customize the colors and stripes based on the occasion (think green, purple, or even black for Halloween!).

  • If you want a thicker candy coating, you can double dip the apples after the first layer has cooled.

  • If you don’t have a candy thermometer, the syrup is ready when it forms hard, brittle threads when dropped into cold water.

Enjoy your sweet, colorful treat!
