Root Beer Baked Beans Recipe
Ingredients:
-
4 cups canned baked beans (or homemade baked beans)
-
1 cup root beer (regular, not diet)
-
1/2 cup ketchup
-
1/4 cup brown sugar (adjust to taste)
-
1 small onion, finely chopped
-
3-4 slices bacon, chopped (optional for smoky flavor)
-
1 tablespoon yellow mustard
-
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
-
1 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
-
Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
-
Preheat your oven: to 350°F (175°C).
-
Cook the bacon (if using): In a skillet over medium heat, cook the chopped bacon until crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels, leaving a little bacon fat in the pan.
-
Sauté onions: In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and cook in bacon fat (or a little oil) until soft and translucent.
-
Mix ingredients: In a large bowl, combine baked beans, root beer, ketchup, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, cooked onions, and bacon. Stir well.
-
Season: Add salt and pepper to taste.
-
Bake: Pour the mixture into a baking dish, cover with foil, and bake for about 1 hour, stirring halfway through. For a thicker sauce, uncover for the last 15 minutes.
