🧁 Ingredients:

For the Red Velvet Batter:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 1/2 cup buttermilk (room temperature)

  • 1/2 tsp white vinegar

  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1/2 tbsp red food coloring (gel or liquid)

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 large egg

For the Vanilla Swirl Batter:

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1/4 tsp baking powder

  • Pinch of salt

  • 1/4 cup milk (room temperature)

  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)

  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 large egg white


🧁 Instructions:

1. Preheat & Prepare

  • Preheat oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C).

  • Line a 12-cup muffin pan with cupcake liners.

2. Make the Red Velvet Batter

  • In a bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.

  • In a small cup, mix buttermilk, vinegar, vanilla, and red food coloring.

  • In a mixing bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy (2–3 minutes).

  • Add the egg and beat until incorporated.

  • Alternate adding dry ingredients and the buttermilk mixture to the butter mixture. Mix just until combined.

3. Make the Vanilla Batter

  • In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.

  • In a separate bowl, beat butter and sugar until creamy.

  • Add the egg white and vanilla, and beat until smooth.

  • Add dry ingredients alternately with milk until just combined.

4. Assemble the Marble Cupcakes

  • Spoon about a tablespoon of red velvet batter into each cupcake liner.

  • Add a smaller dollop (about 1/2 tbsp) of vanilla batter on top.

  • Continue layering until liners are 2/3 full.

  • Use a toothpick or skewer to gently swirl the two batters together (don’t over-mix!).

5. Bake

  • Bake for 18–22 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

  • Cool in pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

  • Or add a swirl of both for a marbled top!
