Sure! Here’s a detailed recipe for Potato Patties with Meat Filling — crispy potato crust with a savory, flavorful meat center. Perfect as a snack, appetizer, or light meal.

Potato Patties with Meat Filling

Ingredients:

For the Potato Patties (Outer Layer):

  • 4 large potatoes (about 800g), peeled and boiled until soft

  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour or cornstarch (helps bind)

  • Salt, to taste

  • Black pepper, to taste

  • 1 tsp chili powder or paprika (optional, for a mild kick)

  • Oil for shallow frying

For the Meat Filling:

  • 250g ground meat (beef, lamb, chicken, or turkey)

  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 small green chili, finely chopped (optional)

  • 1 tsp ginger paste or freshly grated ginger

  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder

  • 1/2 tsp coriander powder

  • 1/4 tsp garam masala or allspice (optional)

  • Salt, to taste

  • Black pepper, to taste

  • Fresh coriander (cilantro), chopped (optional)

  • 1 tbsp oil

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Potato Base

  1. Boil the potatoes in salted water until soft (about 15-20 minutes).

  2. Drain well and mash the potatoes while still warm.

  3. Add salt, pepper, chili powder (if using), and the flour or cornstarch to the mashed potatoes.

  4. Mix well until smooth and pliable. Set aside.

Step 2: Make the Meat Filling

  1. Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan over medium heat.

  2. Add chopped onions and sauté until translucent.

  3. Add garlic, ginger, and green chili; cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  4. Add ground meat, breaking it apart with a spoon.

  5. Cook the meat until browned and cooked through (~8-10 minutes).

  6. Add cumin, coriander, garam masala, salt, and pepper.

  7. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, stirring well.

  8. Remove from heat, stir in chopped fresh coriander if using, and let the filling cool.

Step 3: Assemble the Potato Patties

  1. Divide the mashed potato mixture into equal portions (about the size of a golf ball).

  2. Take one portion and flatten it into a small disc in your palm.

  3. Place about 1-2 tablespoons of the meat filling in the center.

  4. Carefully fold the edges of the potato over the filling to seal it, then gently flatten the ball into a patty shape.

  5. Repeat with the remaining potato and meat filling.

Step 4: Cook the Potato Patties

  1. Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat (enough to shallow fry).

  2. Fry the patties a few at a time, for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crisp.

  3. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Serving Suggestions:

  • Serve hot with ketchup, mint chutney, or yogurt dip.

  • Pair with a fresh salad or pickle on the side.
