Here’s a simple and delicious potato fritters recipe you can make at home:


Crispy Potato Fritters Recipe

  • 2 large potatoes (peeled and grated)

  • 1 small onion (grated or finely chopped)

  • 2–3 tablespoons all-purpose flour (or chickpea flour for a gluten-free option)

  • 1 egg (optional – helps bind, but can be skipped for vegan version)

  • 1 garlic clove (minced)

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika or chili flakes (optional, for a kick)

  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh herbs (parsley, cilantro, or green onions)

  • Oil for shallow frying (vegetable, sunflower, or canola)

  1. Prepare the potatoes:

    • Grate the potatoes and place them in a bowl of cold water for 5–10 minutes. This removes excess starch and helps them crisp up.

    • Drain and squeeze out as much water as possible using a clean kitchen towel or paper towels.

  2. Mix the batter:

    • In a large bowl, combine the grated potato, onion, flour, egg (if using), garlic, herbs, salt, pepper, and spices.

    • Mix until everything is well combined. The mixture should hold together; if it’s too wet, add a bit more flour.

  3. Fry the fritters:

    • Heat about 1/4 inch of oil in a skillet over medium heat.

    • Scoop heaped tablespoons of the mixture into the pan and flatten them slightly with a spatula.

    • Fry for 2–3 minutes per side or until golden brown and crispy.

  4. Drain and serve:

    • Place cooked fritters on a paper towel-lined plate to remove excess oil.

    • Serve hot with sour cream, yogurt dip, or a spicy chutney.

  • Skip the egg and add 1 tablespoon of ground flaxseed mixed with 2.5 tablespoons water (let sit for 5 minutes before mixing in).
