Classic Pizza Dough
Ingredients:
-
3 ½ cups (440g) all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)
-
1 teaspoon sugar
-
2 ¼ teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
-
2 teaspoons salt
-
1 ½ cups (360ml) warm water (about 110°F / 43°C)
-
2 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions:
-
Activate yeast:
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy. -
Mix dry ingredients:
In a large bowl, whisk together flour and salt. -
Combine:
Pour yeast mixture and olive oil into the flour mixture. Stir with a wooden spoon or your hands until a rough dough forms. -
Knead:
Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add flour little by little if it’s sticky. -
First rise:
Lightly oil a clean bowl, place dough inside, and cover with a damp towel or plastic wrap. Let it rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size. -
Shape:
Punch down dough and divide it into 2 balls for medium pizzas (or keep whole for one large pizza). Let rest for 10 minutes before rolling out. -
Top and bake:
Preheat oven to 475°F (245°C). Roll out dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness. Add your favorite toppings and bake for 12-15 minutes or until crust is golden and crispy.
