Oregano Tea

Posted on June 3, 2025

Sure! Here’s a detailed oregano tea recipe that’s great for cold, flu, and respiratory relief. Oregano has natural antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties, making it a popular herbal remedy for soothing symptoms and boosting immunity.

Oregano Tea Recipe for Cold, Flu, and Respiratory Relief

Ingredients:

  • 1 to 2 teaspoons of dried oregano leaves (or 1 tablespoon fresh oregano leaves)

  • 2 cups of water

  • Optional: honey or lemon for taste

  • Optional: a small piece of fresh ginger for extra anti-inflammatory benefits

Instructions:

  1. Boil Water
Bring 2 cups of fresh water to a boil in a kettle or saucepan.

  2. Prepare Oregano
If using fresh oregano, gently crush the leaves to release their oils. If dried, measure 1 to 2 teaspoons.

  3. Steep the Oregano
Place the oregano leaves (and ginger if using) in a heatproof cup or teapot. Pour the boiling water over the leaves.

  4. Cover and Steep
Cover the cup or pot with a lid or small plate to keep the essential oils from escaping. Let the tea steep for 7 to 10 minutes. The longer you steep, the stronger the flavor and medicinal properties.

  5. Strain the Tea
Use a fine mesh strainer or tea infuser to remove the oregano leaves and ginger pieces.

  6. Add Flavor (Optional)
Add honey to sweeten and soothe the throat. A squeeze of fresh lemon juice can provide extra vitamin C and a refreshing taste.

  7. Drink Warm
Sip the tea slowly while warm for best relief. You can drink 2-3 cups a day during cold or flu symptoms.

Tips & Benefits:

  • Oregano contains compounds like carvacrol and thymol that help fight bacteria, viruses, and inflammation.

  • Ginger can add additional anti-inflammatory and soothing effects.

  • Honey is a natural cough suppressant and throat soother.

  • Lemon adds vitamin C which supports the immune system.
