Ingredients:
-
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
-
1 tsp baking powder
-
½ tsp baking soda
-
¼ tsp salt
-
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
-
1 cup granulated sugar
-
2 large eggs
-
1 tsp vanilla extract
-
½ cup fresh orange juice (about 2 medium oranges)
-
Zest of 1 orange
-
½ cup whole milk
For the Orange Glaze (Optional):
-
1 cup powdered sugar
-
2 tbsp fresh orange juice
Instructions:
-
Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.
-
Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
-
Cream the Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy (about 3-4 minutes).
-
Add Eggs and Flavor: Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract, orange juice, and orange zest.
-
Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
-
Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
-
Cool: Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
-
Make the Glaze (Optional): In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and orange juice until smooth. Drizzle over the cooled cake.
