Orange cake

Posted on May 14, 2025

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • ½ tsp baking soda

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • ½ cup fresh orange juice (about 2 medium oranges)

  • Zest of 1 orange

  • ½ cup whole milk

For the Orange Glaze (Optional):

  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • 2 tbsp fresh orange juice

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.

  2. Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

  3. Cream the Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy (about 3-4 minutes).

  4. Add Eggs and Flavor: Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract, orange juice, and orange zest.

  5. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.

  6. Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. Cool: Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

  8. Make the Glaze (Optional): In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and orange juice until smooth. Drizzle over the cooled cake.
