Ooey Gooey Bars
Ingredients:
Crust:
-
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
-
1 cup granulated sugar
-
2 cups all-purpose flour
-
1/4 teaspoon salt
Filling:
-
8 oz cream cheese, softened
-
1 cup powdered sugar
-
2 large eggs
-
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Topping:
-
1 cup mini chocolate chips (or chopped chocolate)
-
1 cup chopped nuts (optional, like pecans or walnuts)
Instructions:
-
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang to lift bars out easily.
-
Make the crust:
In a medium bowl, mix melted butter, granulated sugar, flour, and salt until combined. Press evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan. -
Bake crust for about 15 minutes until lightly golden.
-
Prepare the filling:
In a large bowl, beat softened cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth. Add eggs and vanilla extract and mix well. -
Assemble:
Pour the cream cheese mixture over the warm crust. Sprinkle the mini chocolate chips and nuts evenly on top. -
Bake for another 25-30 minutes until the filling is set and slightly golden around the edges. The center will still be gooey.
-
Cool completely in the pan on a wire rack, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours before slicing into bars.
