Here’s a fun and fresh twist on classic lemonade — something I like to call Not Your Average Lemonade! It’s zesty, a little spicy, and packed with layers of flavor.
Not Your Average Lemonade
Ingredients:
-
6 large lemons (for about 1 cup fresh lemon juice)
-
4 cups cold water
-
1/2 cup honey or agave syrup (adjust to taste)
-
1 small piece of fresh ginger (about 1-inch), peeled and thinly sliced
-
1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric (optional, for color & health boost)
-
A pinch of cayenne pepper (optional, for a subtle kick)
-
Fresh mint leaves (a handful)
-
Ice cubes
-
Lemon slices and mint sprigs for garnish
Instructions:
-
Make the ginger infusion:
In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup water with the sliced ginger. Bring to a simmer for 5 minutes, then remove from heat and let steep for 10 minutes. Strain out the ginger slices. -
Mix the lemonade:
In a large pitcher, combine the fresh lemon juice, ginger-infused water, remaining 3 cups cold water, honey or agave syrup, turmeric, and cayenne pepper. Stir well until the sweetener dissolves. -
Chill and flavor:
Add fresh mint leaves and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors meld. -
Serve:
Fill glasses with ice cubes, pour the lemonade over, and garnish with lemon slices and mint sprigs.
Optional extras:
-
Add a splash of sparkling water for fizz.
-
Use lavender or basil instead of mint for a different herbal note.
-
For a grown-up twist, add a splash of vodka or gin.
