Here’s a tasty recipe for Monterey Sausage Pie — a hearty, cheesy, and savory pie featuring sausage, veggies, and a creamy cheesy filling.


Monterey Sausage Pie

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) ground breakfast sausage (or any mild sausage)

  • 1 medium onion, chopped

  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese

  • 4 large eggs

  • 1 cup milk (whole or 2%)

  • 1/2 cup sour cream

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 refrigerated pie crust (or homemade)

Optional:

  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes or canned Rotel (drained)

  • 1/4 teaspoon chili powder or smoked paprika (for a little kick)


Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven: 375°F (190°C).

  2. Prepare the crust: Roll out your pie crust and fit it into a 9-inch pie plate. Set aside.

  3. Cook sausage and veggies:
    In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground sausage until browned and cooked through, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess fat.
    Add chopped onion and bell pepper, sauté until softened (about 5 minutes). Remove from heat.

  4. Mix the filling:
    In a large bowl, whisk eggs, milk, sour cream, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and optional chili powder. Stir in cooked sausage mixture, cheddar cheese, Monterey Jack cheese, and optional diced tomatoes.

  5. Assemble:
    Pour the filling into the prepared pie crust.

  6. Bake:
    Bake for about 40-45 minutes or until the center is set and the crust is golden.

  7. Cool slightly:
    Let it cool for about 10 minutes before slicing.


Serving suggestions:

  • Serve with a fresh green salad or roasted veggies.

  • Great for breakfast, brunch, or even dinner.
