Matcha Green Tea

Here’s a simple Matcha Green Tea Powder Drink Recipe to help you enjoy this vibrant, antioxidant-rich beverage at home:


🍵 Traditional Matcha Green Tea (Usucha – Thin Style)

Ingredients:

  • 1 tsp matcha green tea powder (about 2 grams)

  • 2 oz (60 ml) hot water (not boiling — about 160–175°F / 70–80°C)

  • Optional: sweetener (honey, agave, or sugar) to taste

Equipment:

  • Matcha bowl (or any small bowl)

  • Bamboo whisk (chasen) or milk frother/regular whisk

  • Fine mesh sieve (optional but recommended for smoothness)


Instructions:

  1. Sift the Matcha:

    • Place the matcha powder through a fine mesh sieve into your bowl. This helps prevent clumps and ensures a smooth drink.

  2. Add Hot Water:

    • Pour 2 oz of hot (not boiling) water into the bowl with matcha.

  3. Whisk:

    • Use a bamboo whisk (chasen) in a zigzag “M” or “W” motion to mix until a fine froth appears on the surface. If using a frother, mix until the powder is fully dissolved and frothy.

  4. Serve:

    • Enjoy immediately as a small, concentrated tea. You can also sweeten it if desired.


☁️ Optional Variations:

  • Matcha Latte:

    • Add 6 oz of steamed milk (dairy or plant-based) after whisking the matcha. Sweeten to taste.

  • Iced Matcha Latte:

    • Mix matcha with a small amount of hot water, then pour over ice with cold milk.

  • Matcha Smoothie:

    • Blend 1 tsp matcha with banana, milk, honey, and ice for an energizing smoothie.
