Mac n cheese

Here’s a classic, creamy mac and cheese recipe that’s easy, comforting, and super satisfying:


🧀 Classic Baked Mac and Cheese

Ingredients (Serves 4–6):

For the pasta:

  • 1 lb (450g) elbow macaroni (or any short pasta)

For the cheese sauce (béchamel):

  • 4 tbsp (½ stick) unsalted butter

  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour

  • 3 cups whole milk (warm)

  • 1 cup heavy cream (optional, or use more milk)

  • 2½ cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

  • 1 cup mozzarella (optional, for stretch)

  • ½ cup grated Parmesan (optional, for bite)

  • ½ tsp salt (adjust to taste)

  • ½ tsp garlic powder

  • ¼ tsp black pepper

  • â…› tsp paprika or cayenne (optional, for kick)

Optional topping:

  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (Panko preferred)

  • 2 tbsp butter, melted

  • Sprinkle of Parmesan


🥄 Instructions:

1. Cook pasta:

  • Boil the pasta in salted water until just al dente.

  • Drain and set aside (toss with a little oil or butter to prevent sticking).

2. Make the cheese sauce:

  • In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.

  • Whisk in the flour to form a roux. Cook 1–2 minutes until golden.

  • Slowly whisk in the warm milk and cream until smooth.

  • Simmer for 5–7 minutes until thickened.

  • Lower heat and stir in cheeses, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika until melted and smooth.

3. Combine:

  • Add cooked pasta to the cheese sauce and mix well.

4. Optional baking:

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

  • Pour mac and cheese into a greased baking dish.

  • Mix breadcrumbs with melted butter and Parmesan; sprinkle on top.

  • Bake 15–20 minutes until golden and bubbly.


🔄 Variations:

  • Add crispy bacon, jalapeños, or caramelized onions for extra flavor.

  • Use Gruyère, Fontina, or Gouda for a fancier cheese blend.

  • Make it stovetop-only by skipping the baking step.
