Jamaican Sunrise

Posted on August 17, 2025

Here’s a  recipe for making a classic Jamaican Sunrise cocktail:

Jamaican Sunrise Cocktail Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Jamaican rum (a good-quality dark or spiced rum works great)

  • 4 oz fresh orange juice (preferably freshly squeezed)

  • 1 oz pineapple juice

  • 1/2 oz grenadine syrup

  • Ice cubes

  • Orange slice and maraschino cherry for garnish (optional)

Equipment:

  • Highball or tall glass

  • Bar spoon or stirrer

Instructions:

  1. Fill the glass with ice:
Start by filling a tall glass with ice cubes to chill it well.

  2. Add the rum:
Pour 2 oz of Jamaican rum over the ice.

  3. Add the fruit juices:
Add 4 oz of fresh orange juice and 1 oz of pineapple juice to the glass.

  4. Stir gently:
Give the mixture a gentle stir to combine the rum and juices.

  5. Add the grenadine:
Slowly pour 1/2 oz of grenadine syrup into the glass. Because grenadine is heavier than the juices, it will sink to the bottom and then gradually rise, creating the layered “sunrise” effect.

  6. Garnish and serve:
Garnish with a slice of orange and a maraschino cherry on the rim or dropped into the drink for an added tropical touch.

Tips for the perfect Jamaican Sunrise:

  • Use fresh juices for the best flavor.

  • Pour the grenadine slowly along the side of the glass or over a spoon to help create the layered effect.

  • You can adjust the sweetness by adding more or less grenadine depending on your preference.
