🍫 Homemade Chocolate Sticks Recipe
🕒 Prep Time: 20 minutes
🕒 Cook Time: 10–12 minutes
❄️ Chill Time: 30 minutes (optional for shaping ease)
🍽️ Servings: ~20–25 sticks
🧂 Ingredients:
For the Dough:
-
1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
-
2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
-
2 tbsp cornstarch (makes them crisp)
-
1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
-
1/4 cup (50g) powdered sugar
-
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
-
A pinch of salt
-
1–2 tbsp milk (only if needed for binding)
For Coating (Optional):
-
100g (about 3.5 oz) dark or milk chocolate, chopped
-
1 tsp coconut oil or butter (for smooth melting)
-
Sprinkles, chopped nuts, or crushed biscuits (for decoration)
👩🍳 Instructions:
1. Prepare the Dough
-
In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, cornstarch, and salt. Set aside.
-
In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
-
Add vanilla extract and mix well.
-
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture and mix until a soft dough forms. If it’s too dry or crumbly, add 1 tbsp milk at a time until the dough holds together.
2. Shape the Sticks
-
Option A (Piping):
Transfer the dough into a piping bag fitted with a medium star or round tip. Pipe into 3- to 4-inch long sticks on a parchment-lined baking tray. -
Option B (Rolling):
Chill dough for 30 minutes. Then roll it into pencil-thick ropes and cut into sticks of desired length.
Tip: Chill again for 10 minutes after shaping to help them hold their shape better during baking.
3. Bake
-
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
-
Bake the sticks for 10–12 minutes, or until set but not overly browned.
-
Let them cool completely on a wire rack. They will crisp up as they cool.
4. Chocolate Coating (Optional but Recommended!)
-
Melt the chocolate and coconut oil in a microwave or double boiler until smooth.
-
Dip one end of each cooled stick into the chocolate, then sprinkle toppings if desired.
-
Lay them on parchment paper to set. You can refrigerate them for 10 minutes to speed up setting.
✅ Storage:
-
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.
-
You can also freeze them (uncoated or coated) for up to 1 month.
🍴 Serving Ideas:
-
Serve with coffee or tea.
-
Use as edible stirrers for hot chocolate.
-
Gift them in jars or boxes for holidays.
