HOMEMADE ANGEL BISCUITS

Here’s a classic Homemade Angel Biscuits recipe that’s fluffy, buttery, and perfect for breakfast or alongside any meal:


Homemade Angel Biscuits

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tablespoon baking powder

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 2 tablespoons sugar (optional for a slight sweetness)

  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter (cut into small cubes)

  • 3/4 cup cold buttermilk (or regular milk with 1 tablespoon lemon juice or vinegar added and rested for 5 minutes)

  • 1 large egg (optional, for extra richness)


Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven:
    Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.

  2. Mix Dry Ingredients:
    In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.

  3. Cut in Butter:
    Add the cold butter cubes to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter, two forks, or your fingertips to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with pea-sized pieces of butter.

  4. Add Wet Ingredients:
    In a small bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and egg (if using). Pour this into the flour-butter mixture. Stir gently with a spoon or spatula just until the dough comes together. Avoid overmixing.

  5. Knead Lightly:
    Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Fold it over on itself 3-4 times, gently kneading — just enough to bring it all together and create layers for flakiness.

  6. Roll and Cut:
    Roll the dough out to about 3/4 inch thick. Use a round biscuit cutter or a glass to cut out biscuits. Press straight down without twisting for best rise.

  7. Bake:
    Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet, close but not touching. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown on top.

  8. Serve:
    Serve warm with butter, honey, or your favorite jam.
