Ground Beef and Potato Casserole

Here’s a classic and hearty Ground Beef and Potato Casserole recipe — perfect for a comforting dinner. It features layers of seasoned ground beef, sliced potatoes, cheese, and a creamy sauce.


Ground Beef and Potato Casserole

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef

  • 1 medium onion, chopped

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 4 cups potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced (about 4 medium potatoes)

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or cheese blend)

  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup

  • 1/2 cup milk

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

  • 1/2 tsp paprika (optional, for flavor and color)

  • 1 tbsp olive oil or butter (for greasing the dish)

  • Chopped parsley or green onions, for garnish (optional)


Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven:

    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch (or similar size) casserole dish with butter or oil.

  2. Cook Ground Beef:

    • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic until the beef is browned and the onions are soft. Drain excess fat. Season with salt, pepper, and paprika (if using).

  3. Prepare the Sauce:

    • In a bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup and milk until smooth.

  4. Layer the Casserole:

    • Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the bottom of the casserole dish.

    • Spoon half of the ground beef mixture over the potatoes.

    • Pour half of the soup mixture on top and sprinkle with a little cheese.

    • Repeat layers: remaining potatoes, beef, soup, and the rest of the cheese on top.

  5. Bake:

    • Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 60 minutes.

    • Remove foil and bake uncovered for another 15–20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is bubbly and golden.

  6. Rest & Serve:

    • Let it sit for about 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped parsley or green onions if desired.


Tips:

  • Add sliced carrots or bell peppers for more veggies.

  • Use cream of chicken or cream of celery soup for variation.

  • For a crispy top, sprinkle some breadcrumbs or French fried onions in the last 10 minutes of baking.
