Ingredients:

3–4 medium green tomatoes (firm and unripe)

1 cup buttermilk

1 large egg
-
½ cup all-purpose flour

½ cup cornmeal
-
½ cup breadcrumbs (optional for extra crunch)

1 tsp salt
-
½ tsp black pepper
-
¼ tsp cayenne pepper (optional)

Vegetable oil (for frying)
🔪 Instructions:

Slice the Tomatoes
Cut tomatoes into ¼- to ½-inch thick slices. Discard the ends. -
Prepare a Dredging Station

In one bowl: mix flour with salt, pepper, and cayenne.

In another: whisk egg and buttermilk together.

In a third: combine cornmeal and breadcrumbs.

Dredge the Tomato Slices
Dip each slice:-
First in the flour (coat both sides)

Then in the egg/buttermilk

Finally in the cornmeal/breadcrumb mix

Fry the Tomatoes

Heat ½ inch of vegetable oil in a skillet (medium-high heat, around 350°F / 175°C).

Fry tomatoes in batches for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown.
