🍑 Fresh Southern Peach Cobbler Recipe

Ingredients

For the peach filling:

  • 6–8 fresh ripe peaches (about 2.5 to 3 lbs), peeled and sliced

  • Âľ cup granulated sugar

  • ÂĽ cup light brown sugar

  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon

  • ÂĽ tsp ground nutmeg

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 2 tsp lemon juice

  • 1 tbsp cornstarch (to thicken)

For the cobbler topping:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • ½ cup granulated sugar

  • ½ cup light brown sugar

  • 1½ tsp baking powder

  • ½ tsp salt

  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter (cold, cut into small cubes)

  • ÂĽ cup boiling water

Optional topping:

  • 1–2 tbsp sugar + ½ tsp cinnamon for sprinkling

Instructions

1. Preheat oven

Preheat to 375°F (190°C).

2. Prepare the peach filling

In a large bowl, toss sliced peaches with:

  • sugars, spices, lemon juice, vanilla, and cornstarch.

Pour the mixture into a 9×13 inch baking dish or large cast iron skillet. Bake for 10 minutes to start softening the peaches.

3. Make the cobbler topping

In another bowl:

  • Whisk flour, sugars, baking powder, and salt.

  • Cut in the cold butter with a pastry cutter or your fingers until crumbly.

  • Stir in boiling water until a thick dough forms.

4. Assemble

Drop spoonfuls of the cobbler dough over the hot peaches. It doesn’t need to cover them completely—some peach peeking through is perfect.

Sprinkle the top with cinnamon sugar if using.

5. Bake

Bake for 35–45 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the peach filling is bubbling.
