DIY Cracked Heel Treatment with Vicks VapoRub

Posted on June 4, 2025

Vicks VapoRub is often used in home remedies for cracked heels (or “cracked foots”), thanks to its combination of menthol, camphor, and eucalyptus oil. These ingredients have moisturizing and healing properties that can soften tough skin and promote healing.

Here’s a simple cracked heel remedy recipe using Vicks VapoRub:

🧴 DIY Cracked Heel Treatment with Vicks VapoRub

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon Vicks VapoRub

  • 1 tablespoon petroleum jelly (optional, for extra moisture)

  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil or olive oil (optional, for nourishment)

  • Clean cotton socks

  • Pumice stone or foot file (for exfoliation)

Instructions:

  1. Soak your feet:

    • Soak your feet in warm water for 10–15 minutes.

    • Optionally add a few drops of essential oil (like tea tree or lavender) and a handful of Epsom salt.

  2. Exfoliate:

    • Gently scrub the heels using a pumice stone or foot file to remove dead skin.

  3. Prepare the ointment:

    • In a small bowl, mix Vicks VapoRub with petroleum jelly and coconut oil (if using).

    • Stir until well combined.

  4. Apply the mixture:

    • Dry your feet completely.

    • Apply the ointment generously on the cracked areas.

  5. Cover with socks:

    • Wear clean cotton socks to help seal in the moisture overnight.

  6. Repeat nightly:

    • For best results, repeat this treatment nightly for about a week.

💡 Tips:

  • Don’t use on open or bleeding cracks without checking with a doctor.

  • Combine with regular foot care: exfoliation and moisture are key.

  • Avoid using Vicks on children under 2 years or on broken skin.
