Ingredients:

  • 1 tsp sugar

  • 1 cup cold butter (cut into cubes)

  • 6–8 tbsp ice water

For the filling:

  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 1/2 lb Italian sausage (mild or hot, casings removed)

  • 1 small onion, chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 cup pizza sauce or marinara

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

  • 1/2 cup shredded provolone or cheddar cheese

  • 20–30 slices pepperoni

  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano

  • 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

  • Salt & pepper to taste


Instructions:

1. Prepare the Crust (If Homemade):

  • Mix flour, salt, and sugar in a bowl. Cut in cold butter until crumbly.

  • Gradually add ice water, mixing just until dough holds together.

  • Divide in half, form discs, wrap, and chill for 30 minutes.

2. Cook the Meat Filling:

  • In a skillet, cook ground beef, sausage, and onion over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.

  • Stir in garlic, pizza sauce, oregano, pepper flakes, salt, and pepper.

  • Simmer for 5 minutes, then remove from heat and let cool slightly.

3. Assemble the Pie:

  • Preheat oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).

  • Roll out one crust (or press pizza dough) into a deep 9-inch pie dish or springform pan.

  • Layer half the meat mixture, sprinkle some cheese, then add a layer of pepperoni.

  • Repeat layers: meat, cheese, pepperoni.

  • Top with final sprinkle of mozzarella and cheddar.

4. Top Crust (Optional):

  • Roll out second crust and place over top. Seal edges, cut steam vents.
    Or skip top crust and bake open-face like a deep-dish pizza pie.

5. Bake:

  • Bake for 35–45 minutes, until golden brown and bubbling.

  • Let rest 10 minutes before slicing to set.
