-
⅓ cup (75g) unsalted butter, melted
-
1 tsp salt
-
1 large egg
For the chocolate cinnamon filling:
-
½ cup (100g) brown sugar, packed
-
2 tbsp ground cinnamon
-
½ cup (90g) semi-sweet chocolate chips or finely chopped chocolate
-
3 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
For the icing:
-
1 cup (120g) powdered sugar
-
2 tbsp cream cheese, softened (optional but recommended)
-
1-2 tbsp milk or cream
-
½ tsp vanilla extract
-
Pinch of salt
Instructions:
1. Make the dough:
-
In a small bowl, sprinkle yeast over warm milk. Let it sit 5-10 minutes until foamy.
-
In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt.
-
Add melted butter, egg, and the yeast mixture. Stir until combined.
-
Knead dough on a lightly floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook for 5-6 minutes.
-
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel or plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
2. Prepare the filling:
-
Mix brown sugar and cinnamon in a bowl.
-
Set aside the softened butter and chocolate chips.
3. Assemble rolls:
-
Punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle about 16×12 inches.
-
Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough.
-
Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly on top.
-
Scatter chocolate chips evenly over the cinnamon sugar.
-
Starting from the longer side, tightly roll the dough into a log.
-
Cut into 12 equal pieces.
4. Second rise:
-
Place rolls cut-side up in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, leaving some space between each.
-
Cover and let rise for 30-45 minutes, until puffy.
5. Bake:
-
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
-
Bake rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
-
Remove from oven and cool slightly before icing.
6. Make the icing:
-
Whisk powdered sugar, cream cheese, vanilla, salt, and enough milk to make a smooth glaze.
-
Drizzle generously over warm rolls.
Tips:
-
For extra gooey rolls, add some chopped nuts or a bit more chocolate in the filling.
-
Serve warm for best texture and flavor.
-
Store leftovers in an airtight container, reheat gently before serving.
