Cheddar Ranch “Crack” Dip

Posted on June 8, 2025

Here’s a recipe for a Cheddar Ranch “Crack” Dip, a super creamy, cheesy, and flavorful appetizer that’s perfect for parties, game days, or snacking. It gets the nickname “crack” dip because it’s so addictive!

🧀 Cheddar Ranch “Crack” Dip

🕒 Prep Time: 10 minutes

⏲️ Chill Time: 1–2 hours (recommended)

🍽️ Servings: 10–12 (as an appetizer/snack)

✅ Ingredients:

  • 1 (16 oz) container sour cream

  • 1 (1 oz) packet ranch seasoning mix (e.g., Hidden Valley)

  • 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese (sharp cheddar is best)

  • 6–8 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled (or ½ cup real bacon bits)

  • ½ cup chopped green onions (about 4 green onions)

  • Optional:

    • ½ tsp garlic powder

    • ¼ tsp black pepper

    • ¼ cup chopped pickled jalapeños (for a spicy kick)

    • 8 oz cream cheese, softened (for a thicker, richer version)

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

1. Cook the Bacon

  • Cook the bacon until crispy using a skillet, oven, or microwave.

  • Drain on paper towels and crumble when cool.

  • Tip: If you’re using store-bought bacon bits, make sure they are real bacon and not imitation.

2. Mix the Base

  • In a large bowl, combine the sour cream and ranch seasoning mix. Stir until fully blended.

  • If using cream cheese, beat it until smooth first, then stir into the sour cream mixture.

3. Add the Mix-Ins

  • Fold in the shredded cheddar cheese, crumbled bacon, and chopped green onions.

  • Add any optional ingredients you like (e.g., garlic powder, jalapeños).

4. Chill (Important!)

  • Cover and refrigerate the dip for at least 1–2 hours before serving. This lets the flavors meld and intensify.

  • You can also make it up to 24 hours ahead.

5. Serve

  • Serve chilled with:

    • Ritz crackers, tortilla chips, pretzels

    • Fresh veggies like carrots, celery, bell peppers

    • Or spread it on bagels, sliders, or sandwiches!

🧊 Storage:

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3–4 days.

  • Not recommended for freezing due to the dairy content.

🔁 Variations:

  • Spicy Crack Dip: Add diced jalapeños or hot sauce.

  • Lightened-Up: Use Greek yogurt instead of sour cream.

  • Baked Version: Mix in cream cheese, spread into a baking dish, and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20 minutes or until bubbly.
