🍌 Bananas Foster Pudding Recipe
⭐ Servings: 8–10
⏱️ Total Time: ~45 minutes (plus chilling time)
Ingredients
For the Pudding:
-
1 (5.1 oz) box instant vanilla pudding mix
-
2 ½ cups cold whole milk
-
1 (14 oz) can sweetened condensed milk
-
1 tsp vanilla extract
-
1 ½ cups heavy whipping cream (whipped to stiff peaks)
For the Bananas Foster Layer:
-
¼ cup unsalted butter
-
½ cup brown sugar (packed)
-
½ tsp cinnamon
-
2 tbsp dark rum (optional)
-
4 ripe bananas (sliced)
For Assembly:
-
1 box vanilla wafer cookies or butter cookies
-
Extra whipped cream (optional, for topping)
-
Caramel sauce (optional drizzle)
Instructions
1. Make the Pudding Base:
In a large bowl, whisk together the instant pudding mix and cold milk for about 2 minutes until thickened. Add sweetened condensed milk and vanilla extract. Fold in the whipped cream. Chill in the refrigerator while preparing the bananas.
2. Prepare Bananas Foster:
In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in brown sugar and cinnamon; cook until the mixture bubbles and thickens slightly, about 2–3 minutes.
Add sliced bananas and cook gently for 1–2 minutes until they begin to soften. Carefully add the rum (if using), and let it simmer for another minute. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
3. Assemble the Dessert:
In a trifle dish or individual glasses:
-
Layer cookies on the bottom.
-
Spoon over some pudding.
-
Add a layer of bananas foster.
-
Repeat layers as desired, finishing with pudding on top.
4. Chill:
Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight for best results. This allows the flavors to meld and the cookies to soften.
5. Serve:
Top with additional whipped cream and a drizzle of caramel sauce, if desired. Serve chilled.
✅ Tips:
-
No alcohol? Skip the rum and add a splash of vanilla or banana extract for flavor.
-
Make ahead: This dessert is even better the next day!
-
Short on time? Use store-bought whipped topping instead of whipping your own cream.
