Posted on August 15, 2025

Here’s a  recipe for a Bacon Grilled Cheese Sandwich that’s crispy, melty, and packed with flavor. This version includes tips for making it extra delicious with perfectly cooked bacon, gooey cheese, and buttery golden bread.

🥪 Bacon Grilled Cheese Sandwich Recipe

🔪 Prep Time: 10 minutes

🍳 Cook Time: 10–15 minutes

🍽️ Servings: 2 sandwiches

🧾 Ingredients:

For the Sandwich:

  • 4 slices of sandwich bread (sourdough, white, or whole wheat)

  • 4–6 slices of bacon

  • 4 slices of cheese (cheddar, American, Swiss, or your favorite melting cheese)

  • 2 tbsp butter, softened (for spreading)

  • Optional: 1–2 tsp mayonnaise (for an ultra-crispy crust)

  • Optional: A dash of black pepper or hot sauce for extra flavor

🍳 Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Cook the Bacon

  • Method 1 (Pan):

    • Place bacon strips in a cold skillet. Turn the heat to medium.

    • Cook for 6–8 minutes, turning occasionally, until crisp.

    • Drain on paper towels.

  • Method 2 (Oven, less mess):

    • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).

    • Lay bacon on a foil-lined baking sheet. Bake for 15–20 minutes until crispy.

    • Drain on paper towels.

2. Prep the Bread

  • Spread butter (or mayo) on one side of each bread slice. This will be the outside of the sandwich and helps create a golden, crispy crust.

  • Optionally, you can add a thin layer of mayo and then butter for extra crispiness and flavor.

3. Assemble the Sandwich

  • Lay 2 slices of bread, butter-side-down, on a cutting board or plate.

  • Add 1–2 slices of cheese on each.

  • Add the cooked bacon (2–3 slices per sandwich).

  • Add another slice of cheese on top of the bacon (optional, for extra gooeyness).

  • Top with the second slice of bread, butter-side-up.

4. Grill the Sandwich

  • Heat a skillet or griddle over medium-low to medium heat.

  • Place the sandwiches in the pan. Cook slowly for 3–4 minutes per side, pressing gently with a spatula.

  • Flip when golden brown and cheese begins to melt.

  • Cook the other side until golden and the cheese is fully melted.

🔥 Tip: Lower heat = evenly melted cheese without burning the bread.

5. Serve

  • Let sit for 1–2 minutes before slicing (helps keep cheese from oozing out).

  • Slice in halves or diagonals.

  • Serve with tomato soup, pickles, or a simple salad.

🧀 Optional Variations:

  • Add tomato slices or caramelized onions before grilling.

  • Use flavored cheese (like pepper jack for a spicy kick).

  • Add a thin spread of Dijon mustard or hot sauce inside the sandwich for extra flavor.
