🌽 Corn Beard Tea (Corn Silk Tea) – Recipe & Benefits

Corn beard, also known as corn silk, is the long, thread-like styles found underneath the husk of a fresh ear of corn. It’s been used traditionally in herbal medicine, especially in Chinese, Native American, and Ayurvedic traditions, to treat urinary tract issues, high blood pressure, and inflammation.

🧾 Corn Beard Tea Stock Recipe (Makes ~1 liter)

This is a concentrated stock version, which can be diluted later or used as a base.

📌 Ingredients:

  • Fresh or dried corn silk – 1 cup (loosely packed, or 2–3 fresh ears’ worth)

  • Water – 1 liter (4 cups)

  • Optional (for flavor):

    • A small piece of ginger (anti-inflammatory)

    • A slice of lemon peel or a few lemon drops (alkalizing)

    • A few goji berries (antioxidants)

    • 1–2 dried dates (natural sweetness)

💡 Fresh corn silk is ideal. If using dried silk, halve the quantity and rinse before use.

👨‍🍳 Instructions:

  1. Rinse the corn silk thoroughly to remove any dirt or pesticides.

  2. Bring 1 liter of water to a boil in a pot.

  3. Add the corn silk (and any optional flavorings).

  4. Reduce the heat to a simmer and cover the pot.

  5. Simmer gently for 30–45 minutes until the liquid reduces slightly and turns golden or amber.

  6. Strain the tea into a glass container or thermos.

  7. Store in the fridge for up to 3–4 days.

🔁 You can reboil the strained silk one more time with fresh water to extract leftover nutrients.

🍵 How to Drink:

  • Drink 1/2 to 1 cup warm or cold, 1–3 times a day.

  • Can be sweetened with honey, or diluted with hot water.

  • Avoid excessive daily use (moderation recommended: max 2–3 cups/day for most people).
