Cherry Almond Amish Sugar Cookies

Posted on July 28, 2025

Here’s a Cherry Almond Amish Sugar Cookies recipe that combines the soft, buttery texture of traditional Amish sugar cookies with the sweet-tart flavor of cherries and nutty almond undertones:

🍒 Cherry Almond Amish Sugar Cookies

🧁 Ingredients:

For the Cookies:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 cup vegetable oil

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 tsp almond extract

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 4 ½ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • 1 tsp cream of tartar

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ¾ cup chopped maraschino cherries (drained and patted dry)

  • ½ cup sliced almonds (optional, lightly toasted for extra flavor)

Optional Almond Glaze (for topping):

  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • 2–3 tbsp milk

  • ½ tsp almond extract

  • Extra chopped cherries or sliced almonds for garnish

🥣 Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

  2. Mix wet ingredients:
In a large bowl, cream together the butter, oil, granulated sugar, and powdered sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs, vanilla, and almond extract.

  3. Mix dry ingredients:
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt.

  4. Combine:
Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined. Fold in the chopped cherries and almonds.

  5. Scoop & bake:
Drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls onto prepared baking sheets, leaving a little space between each. No need to flatten—they’ll puff up slightly.

  6. Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are just starting to turn golden. The centers will still look soft. Don’t overbake!

  7. Cool:
Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

  8. (Optional) Glaze:
Mix powdered sugar, milk, and almond extract in a small bowl until smooth. Drizzle over cooled cookies and garnish with chopped cherries or almonds if desired.

💡 Tips:

  • Dry the cherries well to avoid excess moisture in the dough.

  • These cookies freeze well (both dough and baked cookies).

  • You can substitute chopped dried cherries if you want less sweetness than maraschinos.
