Southern Fried Peaches

Posted on July 26, 2025

Here’s a classic Southern Fried Peaches recipe—warm, sweet, and crispy, with that irresistible Southern charm. Perfect as a dessert or brunch treat!

🍑 Southern Fried Peaches Recipe
Ingredients:
4 ripe peaches, peeled, pitted, and sliced into thick wedges

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup cornmeal (optional for crunch; you can use just flour if preferred)

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1/4 tsp nutmeg (optional)

2 tbsp granulated sugar

1/4 tsp salt

1/2 cup buttermilk (or whole milk with a splash of vinegar as a substitute)

Vegetable oil or butter, for frying

Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)

Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, for serving (optional but recommended)

Instructions:
Prep the Peaches:
Slice the peaches into thick wedges (about 6–8 slices per peach). Set aside.

Mix the Coating:
In a shallow bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal (if using), cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar, and salt.

Dip & Coat:
Pour buttermilk into another bowl. Dip each peach slice into the buttermilk, then dredge in the dry mixture, coating well.

Fry the Peaches:
In a large skillet, heat 2–3 tablespoons of vegetable oil or butter over medium heat. When hot, add the coated peach slices in batches. Fry until golden and crispy, about 1–2 minutes per side. Don’t overcrowd the pan.

Drain & Serve:
Transfer the fried peaches to a paper towel-lined plate. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.

Serve Warm:
Serve immediately with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.

🍽 Tips:
Too juicy? Pat the peach slices dry with a paper towel before dipping to help the coating stick.

Want a deeper flavor? Add a splash of bourbon or vanilla extract to the buttermilk.

No fresh peaches? You can use drained canned peach halves in a pinch, though they’ll be softer.
