Potato sticks

Posted on May 17, 2025

Here’s a simple and crispy homemade potato sticks recipe — great as a snack or side dish. These taste better than store-bought and can be flavored however you like!

🥔 Homemade Potato Sticks Recipe

🧂 Ingredients:

  • 2 large potatoes (Russet or Yukon Gold work best)

  • Cold water (for soaking)

  • Salt (to taste)

  • Optional spices: paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, chili powder

  • Oil (for deep frying or baking – use vegetable, canola, or sunflower oil)

🔪 Instructions:

Step 1: Prep the Potatoes
  1. Peel the potatoes (optional, depending on your preference).

  2. Cut them into thin matchstick-sized pieces – around 1/8 inch thick. Try to keep them even for consistent cooking.

  3. Soak the cut sticks in cold water for at least 30 minutes (or up to 2 hours) to remove excess starch. This helps them get crispier.

  4. After soaking, drain and pat dry thoroughly with paper towels.

Step 2: Frying (for crispy sticks)
  1. Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Fry the potato sticks in small batches to avoid overcrowding.

  3. Cook until golden and crisp (about 3–5 minutes per batch).

  4. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain.

  5. While still hot, sprinkle with salt and any spices you like.

Alternative: Baking (for a healthier version)
  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).

  2. Toss potato sticks with 1–2 tbsp of oil and your favorite seasonings.

  3. Spread them on a baking sheet in a single layer.

  4. Bake for 20–25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.
