Grandma’s Old-Fashioned Bread Pudding with Vanilla Sauce

Posted on July 9, 2025

Here’s a classic Grandma’s Old-Fashioned Bread Pudding with Vanilla Sauce recipe — simple, comforting, and delicious. This version is rich, custardy, and full of warm spices, just like grandma used to make.

🍞 Grandma’s Old-Fashioned Bread Pudding

Ingredients:

  • 6 cups day-old bread, cubed (French or brioche works best)

  • 2 ½ cups whole milk

  • ½ cup heavy cream

  • 4 eggs

  • ¾ cup granulated sugar

  • ½ cup brown sugar

  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • ½ cup raisins or chopped nuts (optional)

  • 2 tbsp butter, melted

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

  2. Place bread cubes in a large bowl. Pour in milk and cream; let sit for 10–15 minutes so bread soaks up the liquid.

  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together eggs, sugars, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.

  4. Pour egg mixture over the soaked bread. Add raisins or nuts if using. Mix gently until combined.

  5. Pour mixture into the prepared baking dish. Drizzle melted butter on top.

  6. Bake for 45–55 minutes, or until the top is golden and a knife inserted comes out clean.

  7. Let cool slightly before serving with vanilla sauce.
