How to Make Basic Soup

Here’s a simple, basic soup recipe that’s easy to make and delicious!


Basic Vegetable Soup Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter

  • 1 medium onion, chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 2 carrots, peeled and diced

  • 2 celery stalks, diced

  • 4 cups vegetable or chicken broth

  • 1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes (optional)

  • 1-2 potatoes, peeled and diced (optional)

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Fresh or dried herbs (like thyme, parsley, or bay leaf)

  • Optional: any other vegetables you like (peas, green beans, corn, etc.)

Instructions:

  1. Heat oil/butter in a large pot over medium heat.

  2. Add onion and garlic, sauté for 3-5 minutes until softened.

  3. Add carrots and celery (and potatoes if using), cook for another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. Pour in broth and diced tomatoes (if using).

  5. Add herbs, salt, and pepper.

  6. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 20-30 minutes until vegetables are tender.

  7. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.

  8. Serve hot. You can garnish with fresh parsley or a squeeze of lemon for extra flavor.
