Here’s a simple and delicious Garlic Flatbread recipe that you can make with or without yeast.
Garlic Flatbread (No Yeast Option)
Ingredients (Makes 6-8 pieces)
-
2 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)
-
1 tsp baking powder
-
1 tsp salt
-
¾ cup plain yogurt (or Greek yogurt)
-
2 tbsp olive oil
-
2–3 cloves garlic, finely minced or grated
-
2 tbsp butter or ghee
-
Fresh parsley or cilantro (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
-
Make the Dough
In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Add yogurt and 1 tbsp olive oil. Mix until it forms a rough dough. Knead on a floured surface for 5–7 minutes until smooth. Cover and let rest for 20–30 minutes. -
Prep the Garlic Butter
While dough is resting, melt the butter or ghee in a pan. Add minced garlic and sauté for 30 seconds on low heat (don’t brown it). Set aside. -
Roll the Flatbreads
Divide dough into 6–8 equal balls. Roll each out into a 6–8 inch oval or circle. -
Cook the Flatbread
Heat a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Lightly oil it. Cook each flatbread for about 1–2 minutes per side until puffed and golden spots appear. -
Brush with Garlic Butter
Immediately brush hot flatbreads with garlic butter and sprinkle with chopped herbs, if using.
Tips:
-
You can add a bit of grated cheese inside the dough before rolling for cheesy garlic flatbread.
-
For a yeast version, replace baking powder with 1 tsp yeast and let the dough rise for 1 hour before using.
