Here’s a simple and delicious Cinnamon Rock Candy recipe you can try at home!
Cinnamon Rock Candy Recipe
Ingredients:
-
2 cups granulated sugar
-
1 cup water
-
1-2 teaspoons ground cinnamon (or cinnamon sticks if you prefer)
-
Food coloring (optional, cinnamon pairs well with warm colors like red or orange)
-
Wooden skewers or clean string sticks
-
A tall glass jar or heatproof container
Instructions:
-
Prepare your sticks:
-
If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for about 10 minutes, then roll them lightly in sugar. This gives the crystals something to cling to.
-
Let them dry completely on a plate.
-
-
Make the cinnamon sugar solution:
-
In a medium saucepan, bring water to a boil.
-
Gradually add sugar, stirring constantly until completely dissolved. Keep heating until the solution is clear and no granules remain.
-
Stir in the ground cinnamon (or add cinnamon sticks and let steep for a few minutes, then remove).
-
Optional: add a few drops of food coloring to give your rock candy a nice hue.
-
-
Cool slightly:
-
Remove the saucepan from heat and let the sugar syrup cool for about 10-15 minutes.
-
-
Set up your jars:
-
Pour the syrup into your glass jar or container.
-
Suspend the prepared stick into the jar, making sure it doesn’t touch the sides or bottom.
-
-
Wait for crystals to form:
-
Place the jar in a cool, undisturbed area.
-
Crystals should start forming in about 3-7 days. For bigger crystals, leave it longer.
-
-
Enjoy your cinnamon rock candy!
-
Once crystals have grown to your liking, remove the stick and let it dry.
-
Store in an airtight container.
