🍎 Apple Cinnamon Swirl Loaf Recipe

Ingredients

For the Loaf:

  • 1½ cups (190g) all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • ½ tsp baking soda

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon

  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg

  • ½ cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened

  • ¾ cup (150g) granulated sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • ½ cup (120ml) sour cream or Greek yogurt

  • 1½ tsp vanilla extract

  • 1¼ cups (1 medium) peeled, finely chopped apple (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)

For the Cinnamon Swirl:

  • ¼ cup (50g) brown sugar

  • 1½ tsp ground cinnamon

Optional Glaze:

  • ½ cup (60g) powdered sugar

  • 1–2 tsp milk or cream

  • ¼ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan and line with parchment paper for easy removal.

  2. Make the Cinnamon Swirl:
In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and cinnamon. Set aside.

  3. Prepare the Batter:

    • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

    • In a large bowl, cream together butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (2–3 minutes).

    • Beat in eggs, one at a time, then stir in sour cream and vanilla extract.

    • Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until just combined. Fold in chopped apples.

  4. Assemble the Loaf:

    • Pour half the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle half of the cinnamon swirl mixture over the batter.

    • Add the remaining batter on top, then sprinkle with the rest of the cinnamon swirl.

    • Use a butter knife to gently swirl the cinnamon through the loaf in a figure-8 motion.

  5. Bake:
Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. (If the top is browning too fast, tent with foil during the last 15 minutes.)

  6. Cool & Glaze (Optional):
Let the loaf cool in the pan for 10–15 minutes, then remove and transfer to a wire rack. If using glaze, mix ingredients and drizzle over the cooled loaf.

📝 Tips:

  • For extra texture, add ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans.

  • You can use applesauce instead of chopped apple for a smoother texture.

  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or refrigerate for up to 5 days.
