Almond Snowball Cookies – Christmas Recipe

Posted on July 3, 2025

Here’s a delicious and festive recipe for Almond Snowball Cookies, perfect for Christmas! These melt-in-your-mouth cookies are buttery, nutty, and coated in powdered sugar for that signature “snowball” look.

❄️ Almond Snowball Cookies Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (plus extra for rolling)

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1/2 tsp almond extract

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 3/4 cup finely chopped almonds (toasted for extra flavor, optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. In a large bowl, cream together butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy (about 2–3 minutes).

  3. Mix in vanilla and almond extracts.

  4. Gradually add flour and salt, mixing until just combined.

  5. Stir in chopped almonds. The dough will be thick.

  6. Roll dough into 1-inch balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet, about 1 inch apart.

  7. Bake for 14–16 minutes, or until the bottoms are lightly golden. Tops will not brown much.

  8. Let cookies cool for 5 minutes on the baking sheet, then roll them in powdered sugar while still warm.

  9. Once completely cooled, roll again in powdered sugar for that classic snowball finish.

🎄 Tips:

  • Toast the almonds beforehand to enhance their nutty flavor.

  • Store in an airtight container for up to a week.

  • These freeze beautifully — freeze after baking, then roll in fresh powdered sugar before serving.
