Here’s a delicious and simple Vanilla Custard Bars recipe:


🍮 Vanilla Custard Bars

Ingredients:

For the crust:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

For the custard filling:

  • 4 large eggs

  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour

  • 2 1/2 cups whole milk

  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

  • Pinch of salt

Optional topping:

  • Powdered sugar, for dusting


🔪 Instructions:

Step 1: Preheat and Prepare

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish or line with parchment paper.

Step 2: Make the Crust

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine softened butter, flour, powdered sugar, and salt.

  2. Mix until crumbly and press firmly into the bottom of the prepared pan.

  3. Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until the edges are just lightly golden.

  4. Remove from oven and let it cool slightly while you prepare the custard.

Step 3: Make the Custard Filling

  1. In a large bowl, whisk the eggs and sugar until well combined and slightly pale.

  2. Sift in the flour and mix until smooth.

  3. Gradually add the milk, vanilla, and salt, whisking until smooth and combined.

Step 4: Bake

  1. Pour the custard mixture over the warm crust.

  2. Return to the oven and bake for 35–45 minutes, or until the center is just set (a slight jiggle is okay).

  3. Let cool completely at room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours to fully set.

Step 5: Serve

  1. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.

  2. Slice into bars and serve chilled.


💡 Tips:

  • For a richer flavor, use half-and-half or add a splash of heavy cream.

  • Keep refrigerated; best enjoyed within 3 days.
