Chia Berry Spread dirka

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, or blackberries, fresh or frozen)

  • 2 tablespoons chia seeds

  • 1-2 tablespoons honey, maple syrup, or your preferred sweetener (optional)

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional, for added brightness)

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Berries:

    • In a saucepan, add the berries and cook over medium heat for about 5-10 minutes, mashing them with a fork or potato masher as they cook down. This helps to release the juices.

  2. Add Sweetener and Lemon Juice:

    • Once the berries are softened and saucy, stir in the sweetener (if using) and lemon juice. Continue to cook for another 2-3 minutes to combine the flavors.

  3. Add Chia Seeds:

    • Stir in the chia seeds and reduce the heat to low. Let the mixture simmer for another 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally. The chia seeds will absorb the liquid and thicken the mixture, giving it a spreadable consistency.

  4. Cool and Store:

    • Once the spread has thickened to your liking, remove it from the heat and let it cool. As it cools, it will continue to thicken. Transfer the spread to a jar or airtight container and refrigerate for up to 1-2 weeks.
