Pioneer Woman Cheeseburger Pie

Ingredients:

  • For the crust:

    • 1 package refrigerated pie crusts (or homemade if preferred)

  • For the filling:

    • 1 lb ground beef

    • 1 small onion, finely chopped

    • 2 cloves garlic, minced

    • 1 teaspoon salt (or to taste)

    • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

    • 1/2 teaspoon paprika

    • 1/2 teaspoon dried mustard

    • 1/2 cup ketchup

    • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

    • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese

    • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

    • 1/4 cup pickles (optional, for added flavor)

  • For the top layer:

    • 1 cup milk

    • 3 large eggs

    • 1/2 cup sour cream

    • 1/2 cup shredded cheese (optional, for a cheesy topping)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. Prepare the crust:

    • Unroll the pie crusts and line the bottom and sides of a 9-inch pie dish with one crust. Set the second crust aside for later.

  3. Cook the beef mixture:

    • In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat.

    • Add the chopped onion and garlic to the skillet and cook for another 3-4 minutes until the onions are softened.

    • Season with salt, pepper, paprika, and mustard. Stir in the ketchup and Worcestershire sauce. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, then remove from heat.

    • Stir in the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheese until melted and well combined. You can also add pickles at this stage if you’re using them.

  4. Assemble the pie:

    • Pour the beef mixture into the prepared pie crust, spreading it evenly.

    • In a small bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, and sour cream. Pour this mixture over the beef filling in the pie dish.

    • If desired, sprinkle an extra 1/2 cup of shredded cheese on top for a cheesy finish.

  5. Top the pie:

    • Carefully place the second pie crust on top of the filling. Trim any excess dough and crimp the edges to seal the pie. You can make a few small slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape during baking.

  6. Bake:

    • Bake the pie for 35-40 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is set.
