Here’s a delicious recipe for a Ground Beef & Cheese Puff Pastry Roll — crispy on the outside, savory and cheesy on the inside. It’s perfect as an appetizer, snack, or light meal!


Ground Beef & Cheese Puff Pastry Roll

Ingredients:

  • 1 sheet of puff pastry (thawed if frozen)

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1/2 lb (225g) ground beef

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika (optional)

  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano or Italian seasoning

  • 1/4 cup tomato paste or a few tbsp of marinara (optional for extra flavor)

  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix)

  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

  • Sesame seeds or poppy seeds (optional, for topping)


Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. Prepare the filling:

    • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.

    • Add onion and cook until translucent (about 3–4 minutes).

    • Add garlic and cook for 1 more minute.

    • Add ground beef, season with salt, pepper, paprika, and oregano. Cook until browned.

    • Stir in tomato paste if using. Cook for another 2–3 minutes.

    • Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

  3. Assemble the roll:

    • Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle (if it isn’t already).

    • Spread the cooked beef mixture evenly over the pastry, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.

    • Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly on top of the beef.

    • Roll the pastry up tightly from the long side, like a jelly roll, sealing the edge with a bit of water.

    • Place seam-side down on the baking sheet.

  4. Finish and bake:

    • Beat the egg and brush it over the pastry roll.

    • Sprinkle sesame or poppy seeds on top if desired.

    • Use a sharp knife to score a few diagonal slits on top for ventilation.

  5. Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.

  6. Cool slightly, then slice and serve warm.


Serving Suggestions:

  • Serve with a side of marinara or spicy ketchup for dipping.

  • Great with a green salad or roasted veggies for a fuller meal.
