Here’s a delicious recipe for a Ground Beef & Cheese Puff Pastry Roll — crispy on the outside, savory and cheesy on the inside. It’s perfect as an appetizer, snack, or light meal!
Ground Beef & Cheese Puff Pastry Roll
Ingredients:
-
1 sheet of puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
-
1 tbsp olive oil
-
1 small onion, finely chopped
-
2 garlic cloves, minced
-
1/2 lb (225g) ground beef
-
1 tsp salt
-
1/2 tsp black pepper
-
1/2 tsp smoked paprika (optional)
-
1/2 tsp dried oregano or Italian seasoning
-
1/4 cup tomato paste or a few tbsp of marinara (optional for extra flavor)
-
1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a mix)
-
1 egg (for egg wash)
-
Sesame seeds or poppy seeds (optional, for topping)
Instructions:
-
Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
-
Prepare the filling:
-
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
-
Add onion and cook until translucent (about 3–4 minutes).
-
Add garlic and cook for 1 more minute.
-
Add ground beef, season with salt, pepper, paprika, and oregano. Cook until browned.
-
Stir in tomato paste if using. Cook for another 2–3 minutes.
-
Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
-
-
Assemble the roll:
-
Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle (if it isn’t already).
-
Spread the cooked beef mixture evenly over the pastry, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.
-
Sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly on top of the beef.
-
Roll the pastry up tightly from the long side, like a jelly roll, sealing the edge with a bit of water.
-
Place seam-side down on the baking sheet.
-
-
Finish and bake:
-
Beat the egg and brush it over the pastry roll.
-
Sprinkle sesame or poppy seeds on top if desired.
-
Use a sharp knife to score a few diagonal slits on top for ventilation.
-
-
Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
-
Cool slightly, then slice and serve warm.
Serving Suggestions:
-
Serve with a side of marinara or spicy ketchup for dipping.
-
Great with a green salad or roasted veggies for a fuller meal.
