COUNTRY APPLE FRITTER BREAD

Posted on June 7, 2025

Here’s a recipe for Country Apple Fritter Bread that’s perfect for a cozy morning or a delicious treat any time of day!

Ingredients:

For the Bread:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tbsp baking powder

  • ½ tsp salt

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg

  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 cup sour cream

  • 2 cups peeled, chopped apples (Granny Smith or Gala work well)

For the Cinnamon Swirl:

  • ½ cup brown sugar

  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon

For the Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • 1 tbsp milk

  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions:

1. Preheat the oven and prepare the pan:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  • Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan, or line it with parchment paper.

2. Prepare the apple:

  • Peel and chop the apples into small chunks. Set aside.

3. Make the bread batter:

  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Set aside.

  • In a large bowl, beat together the butter and sugar until creamy and smooth (about 2-3 minutes).

  • Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.

  • Stir in the vanilla extract and sour cream.

  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.

4. Prepare the cinnamon swirl:

  • In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon. Set aside.

5. Assemble the bread:

  • Pour half of the bread batter into the prepared loaf pan.

  • Sprinkle half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture on top of the batter.

  • Add the chopped apples on top of the cinnamon sugar.

  • Spoon the remaining batter over the apples and smooth the top.

  • Sprinkle the rest of the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the top of the batter.

6. Swirl the batter:

  • Using a knife or a skewer, gently swirl the cinnamon-sugar and apples into the batter. Be careful not to mix it too much; you want some pockets of cinnamon and apple throughout the bread.

7. Bake the bread:

  • Bake for 55-65 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. If the top starts to brown too quickly, cover it with aluminum foil in the last 15 minutes of baking.

8. Make the glaze:

  • While the bread is cooling, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract to make the glaze.

9. Glaze the bread:

  • Once the bread has cooled for about 15 minutes in the pan, remove it from the pan and place it on a wire rack.

  • Drizzle the glaze over the warm bread, allowing it to soak in.

10. Serve and enjoy!

  • Slice and enjoy the delicious, warm apple fritter bread with a cup of coffee or tea!

This bread has a sweet, cinnamon-y flavor, and the chunks of apples give it a nice juicy texture inside.
