Love Heart Bread & Baked Camembert Recipe

Ingredients:

For the Love Heart Bread:

  • 500g strong white bread flour

  • 7g instant yeast (1 sachet)

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 tbsp sugar

  • 300ml warm water

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • Extra flour for dusting

For the Baked Camembert:

  • 1 whole Camembert cheese (in a wooden box, about 250g)

  • 1 garlic clove, thinly sliced

  • 1-2 sprigs fresh rosemary or thyme

  • Drizzle of olive oil

  • Optional: honey, cracked black pepper, or chili flakes for serving

  • Crusty bread or your love heart bread for dipping

Instructions:

Step 1: Make the Love Heart Bread Dough

  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour, yeast, salt, and sugar.

  2. Gradually add the warm water and olive oil while mixing to form a soft dough.

  3. Knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth or cling film, and leave to rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Step 2: Shape the Love Hearts

  1. After the dough has risen, punch it down gently to release air.

  2. Divide the dough into small equal portions (around 8-10 pieces).

  3. Roll each piece into a ball and then shape it into a heart by pinching one side to form the point and rounding the other side.

  4. Place the hearts on a baking tray lined with parchment paper, leaving space between each.

  5. Cover again and let them prove for 30 minutes.

Step 3: Bake the Love Heart Bread

  1. Preheat the oven to 220°C (430°F).

  2. Optional: brush the hearts lightly with olive oil or beaten egg for a shiny finish.

  3. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

  4. Remove and cool slightly on a wire rack.

Step 4: Prepare & Bake the Camembert

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).

  2. Remove the Camembert from the box and place it back into the wooden box (after removing any paper) or place it in a small ovenproof dish.

  3. Score the top of the cheese with a sharp knife in a criss-cross pattern.

  4. Insert slices of garlic and sprigs of rosemary/thyme into the cuts.

  5. Drizzle a little olive oil on top.

  6. Bake for 15-20 minutes until gooey and melted.

Step 5: Serve

  • Serve the warm baked Camembert with your freshly baked love heart bread.

  • Optionally drizzle with honey or sprinkle with cracked black pepper or chili flakes.

  • Tear the bread hearts and dip into the melted cheese.
