Spray & Bait Combo

Posted on June 3, 2025

Here’s a  natural pest control recipe using baking soda and vinegar to help banish cockroaches, fleas, and ants from your home. These common pantry items are safe, non-toxic, and surprisingly effective when used strategically.

🧪 Why It Works

  • Baking Soda: Disrupts pests’ digestive systems, especially cockroaches, and acts as a desiccant (dries them out).

  • Vinegar: Has strong acetic acid content that repels ants and fleas, disrupts scent trails, and works as a mild disinfectant.

  • Together: When mixed, they produce a fizzing reaction that can help dislodge pests in cracks and crevices.

🧼 Natural Pest Control Recipe (Spray & Bait Combo)

1. Vinegar-Based Repellent Spray (for ants & fleas)

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup white vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)

  • 1 cup water

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • 10 drops of essential oil (optional – peppermint, tea tree, eucalyptus, or lavender)

Instructions:

  1. In a large spray bottle, combine water and vinegar.

  2. Add baking soda slowly — it will fizz.

  3. Add essential oil if desired (ants and fleas hate strong smells).

  4. Shake gently to mix.

Usage:

  • Spray along ant trails, baseboards, entry points, and areas where fleas may hide (carpets, furniture, pet bedding).

  • Avoid spraying directly on pets.

2. Baking Soda & Sugar Cockroach Bait

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup baking soda

  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar

Instructions:

  1. Mix the baking soda and sugar in equal parts.

  2. Place small amounts in shallow lids, bottle caps, or on wax paper.

Usage:

  • Place in corners, behind appliances, under sinks, and any area where cockroaches are active.

  • The sugar attracts the cockroaches; the baking soda kills them after ingestion.

3. Flea-Repelling Carpet Powder

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup baking soda

  • 10 drops of essential oil (optional – lavender or cedarwood)

Instructions:

  1. Mix baking soda and essential oil in a bowl.

  2. Sprinkle over carpets and furniture.

  3. Let sit for 15–30 minutes, then vacuum thoroughly.

⚠️ Important Tips

  • Reapply spray daily at first for active infestations.

  • Keep bait away from children and pets.

  • Use borax instead of baking soda in bait for stronger effect, but it’s not safe for pets.

  • Combine methods for best results (e.g., spray and bait together).
