Homemade Rusk Recipe

Here’s a simple and delicious rusk recipe for you! Rusks are twice-baked bread pieces, crunchy and perfect for tea-tim


Basic Homemade Rusk Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (maida)

  • 1/2 cup sugar

  • 1/4 cup butter (softened)

  • 1/2 cup milk (warm)

  • 1 tsp active dry yeast

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp cardamom powder (optional, for flavor)

  • 1 tbsp dry milk powder (optional, for richness)


Instructions:

  1. Activate yeast:

    • In a small bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast.

    • Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.

  2. Make the dough:

    • In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, cardamom powder, and dry milk powder.

    • Add softened butter and mix well.

    • Pour in the yeast mixture and knead into a soft dough. You may add a little more milk if needed.

    • Cover the dough and let it rise for 1-1.5 hours, until doubled in size.

  3. Bake the bread:

    • Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).

    • Shape the dough into a loaf and place it in a greased loaf pan.

    • Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.

    • Remove from oven and let it cool completely.

  4. Slice and bake again:

    • Slice the loaf into 1/2 inch thick slices.

    • Place the slices on a baking tray.

    • Bake again at 150°C (300°F) for about 15-20 minutes on each side or until crisp and dry.

  5. Cool and store:

    • Let the rusks cool completely before storing them in an airtight container.

    • Enjoy with tea or coffee!
