Fried Chicken with Creamy Mashed Potatoes

Here’s a classic Fried Chicken with Creamy Mashed Potatoes recipe—crispy, golden chicken paired with rich, buttery mashed potatoes. Perfect comfort food!


🍗 Fried Chicken

Ingredients:

  • 4 chicken thighs and 4 drumsticks (bone-in, skin-on)

  • 2 cups buttermilk

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp black pepper

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper (optional for heat)

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions:

  1. Marinate: Combine buttermilk, salt, pepper, paprika, and cayenne in a bowl. Add chicken and coat well. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.

  2. Dredge: In another bowl, mix flour, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Remove chicken from marinade, let excess drip off, then dredge in flour mixture. Press to adhere.

  3. Fry: Heat oil in a deep skillet (about 350°F / 175°C). Fry chicken in batches for 10–15 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and internal temp hits 165°F (74°C).

  4. Drain: Place on a wire rack or paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.


🥔 Creamy Mashed Potatoes

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs (about 4 large) russet or Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and cubed

  • ½ cup heavy cream (or milk)

  • 4 tbsp butter

  • Salt and white or black pepper to taste

  • Optional: roasted garlic or cream cheese for extra richness

Instructions:

  1. Boil: Place potatoes in a large pot, cover with cold water, add salt. Bring to a boil and cook until fork-tender (12–15 minutes).

  2. Mash: Drain and return to pot. Add butter and cream. Mash until smooth (or use a ricer for super creamy texture).

  3. Season: Season to taste with salt and pepper. Stir in any extras like garlic or cream cheese if desired.


🍽️ Serving Suggestion:

Plate the crispy fried chicken with a big scoop of mashed potatoes, drizzle with gravy if you like, and add a side of coleslaw or green beans for a full meal.
