Crack Cake

Posted on May 30, 2025

Crack Cake is a rich, buttery, and incredibly moist bundt cake known for being “addictively delicious,” hence the name. It’s often made with a boxed cake mix, pudding mix, and soaked in a sweet buttery wine glaze. Here’s a classic recipe:

Crack Cake Recipe

🍰 Ingredients:

For the Cake:

  • 1 box yellow cake mix

  • 1 box (3.4 oz) instant vanilla pudding mix

  • ½ cup brown sugar

  • ½ cup granulated sugar

  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • 4 large eggs

  • 1 cup water

  • ¾ cup vegetable oil

  • ½ cup white wine (e.g., chardonnay or any sweet white wine)

For the Glaze:

  • 1 stick (½ cup) unsalted butter

  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • ¼ cup white wine

👩‍🍳 Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a bundt pan.

  2. In a large bowl, mix all cake ingredients together. Beat until smooth (about 2–3 minutes).

  3. Pour batter into the prepared bundt pan.

  4. Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

  5. While cake bakes, make the glaze:

    • In a small saucepan, melt the butter.

    • Add sugar and wine.

    • Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves and the mixture is just about to boil. Remove from heat.

  6. When the cake is done, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the glaze slowly over the hot cake (still in the pan). Let it soak for 15–20 minutes.

  7. Invert the cake onto a serving plate. Let cool completely (or enjoy warm!).

📝 Tips:

  • You can substitute rum or bourbon for wine if desired.

  • Store in an airtight container; it gets even better the next day!
