-
2 tbsp sugar
-
1 tsp salt
-
2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted (plus extra for brushing)
-
1 large egg
Instructions:
1. Activate Yeast:
-
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast.
-
Stir gently and let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
2. Make the Dough:
-
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt.
-
Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg.
-
Stir until a dough forms.
3. Knead:
-
Turn dough onto a floured surface.
-
Knead for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
-
Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook for 5–7 minutes.
4. First Rise:
-
Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a clean towel or plastic wrap.
-
Let rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours, until doubled in size.
5. Shape Rolls:
-
Punch down dough to release air.
-
Divide into 8 equal pieces.
-
Shape each piece into a smooth ball and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
6. Second Rise:
-
Cover rolls loosely and let rise for 30–45 minutes until puffy.
7. Bake:
-
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
-
Optional: brush rolls with melted butter or beaten egg for shine.
-
Bake rolls for 15–18 minutes until golden brown.
8. Cool & Serve:
-
Remove from oven, brush with butter while warm if desired.
-
Cool slightly before serving.
Tips:
-
For softer crusts, cover rolls with a clean towel as they cool.
-
Add herbs, garlic powder, or cheese to dough for flavored rolls.
-
Store leftovers in an airtight container for 2–3 days or freeze for longer.
