Greek Chicken Gyros

Here’s a classic Greek Chicken Gyros recipe for you — flavorful, juicy, and perfect for a quick meal!


Greek Chicken Gyros Recipe

Ingredients:

For the Chicken Marinade:

  • 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs (or breasts)

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 3 tbsp olive oil

  • 2 tbsp lemon juice (freshly squeezed)

  • 1 tbsp red wine vinegar

  • 1 tbsp dried oregano

  • 1 tsp ground cumin

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika

  • 1 tsp salt

  • ½ tsp black pepper

For the Tzatziki Sauce:

  • 1 cup Greek yogurt

  • ½ cucumber, finely grated and drained

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • 1 tbsp fresh dill, chopped (or 1 tsp dried dill)

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

To Serve:

  • Pita bread or flatbreads

  • Sliced tomatoes

  • Sliced red onions

  • Fresh lettuce or arugula

  • Optional: Feta cheese, olives


Instructions:

  1. Marinate the Chicken:

    • In a large bowl, combine garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, red wine vinegar, oregano, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper.

    • Add chicken and toss well to coat.

    • Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (up to overnight for best flavor).

  2. Prepare the Tzatziki Sauce:

    • In a bowl, mix Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, and dill.

    • Season with salt and pepper to taste.

    • Refrigerate until ready to use.

  3. Cook the Chicken:

    • Heat a grill pan or skillet over medium-high heat.

    • Cook the chicken thighs for about 5-7 minutes per side until cooked through and nicely charred.

    • Remove from heat and let rest for a few minutes, then slice thinly.

  4. Assemble the Gyros:

    • Warm the pita bread.

    • Spread a generous amount of tzatziki on the pita.

    • Add sliced chicken, tomatoes, onions, and lettuce.

    • Optionally sprinkle with feta and olives.

  5. Serve and Enjoy!
