Taco Pizza

Here’s a  recipe for a Taco Pizza, combining the best of two worlds: tacos and pizza. This version includes a crispy crust, seasoned beef, refried beans, cheese, and all your favorite taco toppings.


🌮 Taco Pizza Recipe (Serves 4–6)

🕒 Total Time: ~45 minutes

🔥 Oven Temp: 425°F (220°C)


🍕 Ingredients

For the crust (or use pre-made pizza dough):

  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp sugar

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 packet (2¼ tsp) active dry yeast

  • ¾ cup warm water (110°F)

Or use 1 lb store-bought pizza dough.


For the toppings:

Taco Meat:

  • 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey)

  • 1 packet taco seasoning (or use homemade: cumin, chili powder, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, oregano, salt)

  • ¼ cup water

Base Layer:

  • 1 cup refried beans (warmed)

  • ½ cup salsa or taco sauce

Cheese:

  • 1½ to 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, Monterey Jack, or Mexican blend)

Toppings (optional but recommended):

  • 1 cup shredded lettuce

  • 1–2 diced tomatoes

  • ¼ cup sliced black olives

  • ¼ cup diced red onion

  • ½ cup crushed tortilla chips

  • 1 avocado or guacamole

  • Sour cream or crema

  • Jalapeño slices

  • Cilantro

  • Lime wedges (for serving)


👨‍🍳 Instructions

1. Prepare the Pizza Dough (if making from scratch):

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.

  2. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add olive oil and the yeast mixture.

  3. Knead for 5–7 minutes until dough is smooth and elastic.

  4. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for 30 minutes (or until doubled).

Skip this if using store-bought dough.


2. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C)

If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven now to preheat.


3. Cook the Taco Meat:

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef until browned. Drain fat.

  2. Add taco seasoning and water. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until thickened. Set aside.


4. Roll Out the Dough:

  1. On a floured surface, roll dough into a 12- to 14-inch circle.

  2. Transfer to a pizza pan or preheated stone (use parchment if needed).

  3. Pre-bake the crust for 5 minutes (optional, helps prevent sogginess).


5. Assemble the Pizza:

  1. Spread refried beans evenly on the crust.

  2. Top with a thin layer of salsa or taco sauce.

  3. Sprinkle cooked taco meat evenly.

  4. Add shredded cheese generously.


6. Bake the Pizza:

  • Bake at 425°F for 12–15 minutes, until crust is golden and cheese is bubbly.


7. Add Fresh Toppings:

Let the pizza cool for 3–5 minutes, then add:

  • Shredded lettuce

  • Diced tomatoes

  • Olives, onions, jalapeños

  • Crushed tortilla chips

  • Dollops of sour cream or guacamole

  • Sprinkle of cilantro


8. Serve:

  • Slice and serve with lime wedges and extra salsa if desired.


🔁 Variations:

  • Vegetarian: Skip the meat and use black beans, sautéed peppers, or veggie crumbles.

  • Chicken Taco Pizza: Use shredded rotisserie chicken with taco seasoning.

  • Spicy Kick: Add hot sauce or spicy salsa before baking.
